Summary of the Job:
Our Staff Counsel must add value to and be support for the office of the General Counsel and all lines of business within the Bank, as directed by our Associate Counsel, such as offer counsel on legal issues, support an effective legal stewardship of the organization and help facilitate business strategies and development. The successful candidate will be able to support the General Counsel's efforts in all endeavors to ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure.

Reports directly to the Associate Counsel.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide strong legal support to the Office of the General Counsel
  • Help set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors
  • Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of action
  • Anticipate legal issues and estimate risks
  • Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks
  • Base your decision making process on ethics and integrity
  • Create relationships of trust and respect with key stakeholders
  • Deal with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients)
  • Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance
  • Draft agreements, that minimize risks and maximize legal rights
  • Support legal objectives
  • Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes

Minimum Requirements:
  • Proven legal experience in business environment (3-5 years of experience)
  • Broad legal knowledge (real estate, corporate law, litigation, labor law, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives
  • Well-versed in how business operates
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • J.D. degree or equivalent
  • Deep commitment to and involvement in community organizations and activities
