Description:

Overview:
You'll do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibilities, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation. You will need to display impeccable written and oral communication skills coupled with influencing skills and the ability to drive consensus through intellect, interpersonal, and negotiation tactics. The ability to take complex ideas and break them down into simple concepts that anyone can understand is a must have. Capital One Software's business is a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment.

Required skills include, but are not limited to:
Translating: You understand the law, the commercial software industry, and the technology itself (open source software, development, APIs, the cloud, etc.). You are fluent in, and can fluidly transition between, Legalese, English, and Developer speak. You are comfortable talking to developers, legal experts, and Sr. Executives.

Thirst for Knowledge: You don't know everything about everything, but when you read a draft of a presentation or article about Bayesian networks, multi-cloud, or dynamic linking you're the type of person who wants to learn what those things are. You're not frustrated by things you don't know about; you're intrigued.

Strategic Advice: Your (to be learned) understanding of Capital One's banking history and technology journey, the commercial software industry, and applicable law will allow you to work around the corners of novelty. You'll be something of an explorer – like Oregon Trail, but without dysentery.

Partnering to Foster Innovation: Collaborating closely with colleagues across the Legal Department to fully vet and scale risk. You'll nurture new products as they grow and launch in a highly regulated environment.

An Ownership Mentality: You are the Legal point person for Capital One Software's customer deals. You own the Legal issues, including drafting product terms, non-disclosure agreements, and any related negotiations. Don't worry though, you'll have plenty of support from your Capital One Legal Department colleagues. We have your back.

Oxford Commas: You will be a steadfast supporter and vocal proponent of the Oxford comma and its use at Capital One. You will lose the battle, but never stop using the comma. Viva Oxford!
