An Organization Assists Clients Who Are Facing Critical Civil Legal Issues is recruiting for a full-time (35 hours per week) staff attorney to provide legal services to Association of Village Council Presidents (“AVCP”) member Tribes and tribal members. The position is located in Anchorage; however, there may be flexibility to be located in Bethel. The attorney serves clients in cases statewide, but primarily litigated in Anchorage and Bethel-based courts; travel will be required as needed to meet client needs. This position primarily involves representation of tribal clients in state child welfare proceedings, enforcing the Indian Child Welfare Act; and managing a caseload of state court child in need of aid cases. Other duties may also involve litigating other Native law matters on behalf of AVCP Tribes and tribal members. The Attorney will also have the opportunity to participate in appellate and impact litigation.

Required: Applicants must be admitted to practice law in Alaska or admitted to practice in another state and be eligible for an Alaska Bar Rule 43 waiver. Computer proficiency (Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Internet, e-mail and data entry); and the ability to communicate and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
