The Employment Counsel is responsible for advising on global employment matters and management. The role will ensure global legal compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations in the workplace, employment contracts, and legal documents to protect company's interest, dispute resolution and risk management as well as supporting the Senior VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and the Assistant General Counsel in other projects and assignments as they arise. The incumbent shall provide hands-on legal counsel and interact with all levels of management within numerous business and functional areas.

Responsibilities:
  • This role will be primarily dedicated to Human Resources, reporting into the Legal Department, by providing counsel on global employment legal matters and safeguarding the rights and interests of both employees and employers in the workplace.
  • Legal consultation – Offering legal guidance and counseling to clients on global employment matters, labor disputes, discrimination, wage and hour disputes, union and works council issues, workplace policies, benefit plans, OSHA and EEOC matters, and employment due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestments.
  • Compliance- Ensuring that employers comply with federal, state, country, and local employment laws and regulations. This includes reviewing and drafting employment contracts, policies, and handbooks.
  • Education & Training- In partnership with Human Resources, relations conduct training sessions or workshops for managers and employees while ensuring compliance with employment laws.
  • Advise and guide managers and Human Resources Business Partners on best practices related to investigations and provide resolution on other employee relations matters.
  • The job will require the employment counsel to act independently in the identification and analysis of legal issues and in the preparation and interpretation of necessary legal documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree required from an ABA accredited law school and current license to practice law in a US state jurisdiction.
  • Seeking a self-starting attorney with a minimum of 5 years of broad-based global employment law experience with a global law firm, or with experience as in-house counsel.
  • A demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects effectively, and work as both a team player and independently. A strong initiative to manage and complete projects and a wide degree of creativity to problem-solve. The ability to deal effectively with clients, including senior management.
  • Professional demeanor with ability to work in a team oriented, fast-paced environment. Excellent academic credentials, analytical, communication skills and MS Office Suite/Computers skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of providing sound and timely advice, and able to make a positive contribution to a very collegial working environment.
  • Comfortable working in an international business and across varying cultures; and availability for occasional national and international travel.
