The UHS Corporate Legal Department is hiring a Counsel - Labor to assist with various legal matters for UHS and its subsidiaries relating to labor relations and employment. Monitor and respond, as assigned, to certain incoming employment law requests and inquiries including charges and requests from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Department of Labor (including routine OSHA and wage and hour complaints).

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Identify and analyze legal issues related to employment and labor matters, as assigned. Present clear recommendations and assures legal compliance for company employment issues
  • In conjunction with and under the direction of the VP of Labor Relations and Chief Employment Counsel, manage labor-related litigation or arbitration and/or works with outside employment counsel and UHS Vice President of Labor Relations on various employment/labor related matters and billing for labor matters
  • Coordinate issues with outside counsel for employment, litigation, administrative and regulatory matters as needed
  • Participate in union organizing campaigns. Heavy nationwide travel required to conduct initial assessments as well as support and participate in campaigns, as needed
  • Reviews and/or prepares employment related documents including but not limited to contracts and settlement agreements

Qualifications:
Law degree with 3 - 5 years' Labor experience.
  • Strong knowledge of laws, regulations and issues relative to labor and employment law, human resource compliance, administrative agency charge processing and a general understanding of the healthcare industry. Background in healthcare preferred.
  • Strong background in participating in union organizing campaigns
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage and respond to multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • 50% travel required to conduct assessments and participate in organizing campaigns as needed
