Description:

We are looking for an in-house General Counsel (GC) to join our team. The GC will report to the CEO and will assist with case planning, development, and management, legal research. The GC will gather facts, retrieve information, draft and analyze legal documents, and collect / compile / utilize technical information to make recommendations, plus more.

As the company continues to expand, we are looking to remain in compliance while making informed business decisions in a timely, professional manner.

Please note: This position is on-site in our Irvine office and not a work-remote position.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day operation of the compliance of the company.
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop corrective action plans for resolution of any identified issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Management of exams and licensing for the company.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure compliance issues are addressed, investigated, resolved and once resolved, continually adhered to in practice.
  • Respond to state/federal agency inquiries and complaints.
  • Advise management as to changes in applicable laws and regulations, and the effect of those changes on company practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and/or revise policies and procedures related to the general operation of the company.
  • Work with Human Resources to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.
  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of all compliance programs and activities as they relate to the company's needs.
  • Work cross-functionally to support sales, marketing, and leadership team to identify and mitigate potential risks related to trademarks, branding, and other commercial related issues.
  • Identify, research, analyze, and advise teams on a wide range of relevant legal topics, such as intellectual property, consumer rights and protections, marketing, and data ownership.
  • Drafts legal documents, formal discovery requests, notices, interrogatories, motions and summaries of depositions.
  • The GC may perform a number of other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.

Qualifications / Experience
  • Juris Doctorate (JD).
  • Employment and Labor law (2+ years required)
  • Workers' Compensation (2+ years required)
  • Solid background in Contract Law, Litigation and Legal Research (2+ years required)
  • Previous experience with warranty / insurance / contracts
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office and English
