An Affordable Housing Real Estate Investment Firm's Legal Department seeks a Staff Attorney to join its growing in-house legal team, which serves all of An Affordable Housing Real Estate Investment Firm's business lines. Qualified candidates will have one to three years of experience in the area of multifamily real estate transactions and finance. The ideal candidate will have prior experience representing real estate developers and/or investors in the acquisition and financing of multifamily properties. Knowledge of federal and state affordable housing and community development programs and regulations is preferred, but not required.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assist with closings of real estate and investment fund transactions.
  • Review real estate conveyance, financing, and corporate formation & governance documents.
  • Conduct due diligence reviews to include title insurance policies, title exception documents and surveys.
  • Draft documents for real estate transaction closings, on-going asset management, entity formations and dispositions.
  • Review and negotiate various contracts necessary for the day-to-day operations of our assets, including, but not limited to, vendor agreements, property management agreements, construction agreements, solar agreements, revolving credit facilities and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Prepare investor proxies and follow up with investors to communicate deal points if requested.
  • Prepare submissions for subsidy applications, grant applications, real estate closings and investor closings.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel and provide legal advice to internal business clients.
  • Track ongoing claims and litigation at An Affordable Housing Real Estate Investment Firm properties.
  • Coordinating with the Secretaries of State in various jurisdictions for entity formation and continued compliance.
  • Reviewing and approving the escrow agreements, and documents necessary for the release of capital.
  • Supporting other departmental administrative functions and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Background in real estate transactions, affordable housing experience a plus.
  • Experience conducting title and survey reviews.
  • Strong drafting skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and organization.
  • Effective communication skills and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to collaborate effectively with a talented team.
  • Ability to take initiative and produce results.

Education & Experience:
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Active Bar license
  • 0-3 years of previous real estate law experience
