Aspen provides waste and recycling collection services for commercial and residential customers.

A Waste Management and Recycling Services Company Corporate Counsel position is a member of the senior management team and serves all divisions of the company from the headquarter office in Minneapolis. The position is responsible for all of the legal affairs of the company, including managing employment and compliance matters, drafting and revising corporate documents and contracts, and working with outside counsel on corporate and litigation matters. Candidates must have a law degree and at least 5 years of legal experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Successfully build and maintain productive working relationships across Aspen departments.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Aspen's business operations, its staff, services, technology, markets, facilities, customers, and competitors to identify trends and formulate legal strategies accordingly to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to support and provide legal advice on employment law matters, interdepartmental processes, and benefits questions.
  • Work closely with the operations team on compliance, training, and legal questions.
  • Collaborate with other Aspen employees to ensure privacy policies and cyber security related compliance needs are kept up to date with current company processes and applicable regulations.
  • Keep abreast of and advise on proposed and existing legislation and regulations affecting Aspen's business and provide timely communication to coordinate compliance with various internal employees.
  • Review, analyze, and advise on various business agreements including services agreements and vendor agreements.
  • In collaboration with outside counsel and Aspen employees, provide legal support on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and investments for the organization and its subsidiaries.
  • In collaboration with outside counsel as necessary, manage the company's litigation matters, including, but not limited to workers' compensation and liability files.
  • Build strong business partner relationships, by providing creative solutions to meet Aspen's business needs, while mitigating risk.
