General Purpose of The Job:
Attorneys successful in this position will provide legal guidance and support on contractual, regulatory, operations, and risk matters associated with A Healthcare Company's business lines. This attorney's primary focus will be working with and advising A Healthcare Company's Payor Partnerships senior leadership and business team on issues related to contracts (fee-for-service and value-based), healthcare transactions, risk mitigation issues, and healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse laws and regulations; reviewing and drafting organizational, transactional and related agreements; and drafting all documents associated with A Healthcare Company's payor contract portfolio. This teammate also will have oversight and mentoring responsibilities for junior members of the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a senior-level attorney on day-to-day and strategic legal matters and support lane lead in management of Payor Contracting Legal lane.
  • Manage complex projects involving diverse stakeholders and tight deadlines.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate plan and provider agreements and amendments.
  • Ability and confidence to sit work on complex projects and negotiations.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation and revision of contract templates, playbooks, process and training designed to increase efficiency and decrease contract cycle times.
  • Thoughtfully lead and collaborate throughout the contracting and legal review processes by analyzing significant business, financial, and legal risks.
  • Develop and effectively articulate creative solutions and mitigation strategies for key negotiation points to achieve timely and beneficial results.
  • Cultivate and maintain key internal stakeholder relationships, analyze and revise contract language, resolve issues, coordinate with legal and non-legal teammates, and communicate regularly with peers and leadership.
  • Assist and collaborate with other A Healthcare Company attorneys, compliance teammates, privacy teammates, and business clients in identifying and resolving legal matters.
  • Advise on compliance with federal and state laws and regulations in relation to A Healthcare Company's payor contracts.
  • Monitor state law and federal law changes in relevant legal areas (regulations, statutes, case law, enforcement) and provide education to clients and A Healthcare Company teammates on such changes.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ten plus years of relevant law practice in the United States required. Large law firm or Fortune 500 in-house counsel experience preferred.
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction required with the ability to waive into Colorado, if needed.
  • Subject matter expert in health law and substantial experience in the healthcare/life sciences space.
  • Must have experience with Managed Care Contracting.
  • Lead role in matters (i.e. “1st chair”).
  • Advisor and strategic partner to the senior business leadership.
  • Assists in setting and achieving goals and budget for lane.
  • Ability to manage strategic initiatives/projects for JLD.
  • Ability to effectively manage outside counsel within budget.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • High degree of organization and efficiency with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong management capabilities.
  • Ability to successfully manage and mentor junior attorneys.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage several matters simultaneously in a fast-paced workplace environment.
  • High degree of maturity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated contributor to the culture of their current legal department.
  • Independently handle senior-level clients (e.g., Vice Presidents; COO; CFO; CEO).
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
