Position Summary:
An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts and branded residential properties. An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company Law Department services the Company's lodging and hospitality business and provides legal advice and counsel to An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company internal clients.

The Vice President & Corporate Counsel, Global Privacy will be a legal partner to the hospitality business leaders and provide practical advice on hotel-related business decisions and operations regarding privacy and data related laws, including AdTech, biometrics, and generative AI. This attorney will serve as the lead lawyer for the Individual Rights and Privacy Impact Assessment programs in partnership with the business teams who run these programs on a day-to-day basis. The attorney in this position must be comfortable understanding and interpreting new privacy and data protection laws and assessing how to operationalize these legal requirements in a complex organization, with a focus on creative solutions and a compliance mindset.

The VP & Corporate Counsel will be a member of An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company International's Law Department in the Global Legal Compliance group at An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company corporate headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The role will report to the Vice President & Senior Counsel, Global Privacy & Data Security.

Specific Job Duties, Responsibilities, and Expected Contributions:
The attorney's primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Advise business leaders on their global systems and hotel operations as it relates to global privacy laws and emerging technologies regulations, including GDPR, CPRA, LGPD, and PIPEDA, with special emphasis on operationalizing privacy requirements in Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the U.S.
  • Monitor and track emerging regulatory privacy and data developments and translate legal terms into business requirements, guidance, and advice, particularly in AdTech, biometrics, and generative AI.
  • Direct and oversee An American Multinational Diversified Hospitality Company Individual Rights Requests (IRR) program, advise the business teams that manage the IRR program, and enhance and lead the process for managing IRR escalations and regulatory inquiries, working closely with the Data Protection Officer to oversee matters to successful conclusion.
  • Lead the team that oversees, develops, and administers the global Privacy Impact Assessment program, policies, and procedures. Direct the review of PIAs and DPIAs to ensure compliance with Privacy by Design principles and legal requirements.
  • Serve as the lead legal negotiator for Data Protection Agreements.
  • Lead and enhance privacy training, handle privacy-related queries, and raise employee awareness about privacy and data protection developments.
  • Oversee, draft, and maintain internal and external privacy notices, policies, and disclosures.
  • Assist with the management of the Global Privacy Office and its functions.

Candidate Profile:
Successful candidates should possess the experience, knowledge, and skills as follows:
  • Minimum of 5 years' total legal experience, with significant, hands-on experience operationalizing global privacy requirements;
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in providing legal and regulatory advice on privacy and data protection matters with a good working knowledge of key cybersecurity and privacy laws, regulations, and best practices (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, and NIST frameworks). Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a high-functioning and cross-disciplinary team;
  • Excellent academic records with a law degree (J.D.) from a top law school;
  • Admission to the Bar of a US state;
  • Strong project management skills, with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and resources with a sense of urgency and to navigate within a complex organization in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Highly collaborative team player who values teammates;
  • Flexibility and adaptability in addressing global issues as they arise across multiple time zones by being sensitive to potential local business and cultural differences;
