Position Title: Attorney (P3) or Senior Attorney (P4) * - Employment Law

Grade level will be determined commensurate with experience

Role:
This Attorney has responsibility for employment, employment litigation, commercial and tort litigation, and other disputes. More specifically, they will be responsible for providing legal counsel and risk assessment regarding employment law matters, as well as compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws covering all aspects of the business located across the U.S. The Attorney serves as legal support for a variety of business professionals, such as senior management, in addition to managing outside counsel and developing litigation strategy for general litigation matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily advice and counsel to A Real Estate Investment Trust Company regarding legal compliance and risk avoidance with respect to employment matters.
  • Manage litigation (including employment litigation), by engaging in tasks such as responding to attorney demand letters, negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to relevant business partners on resolution.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel on litigation matters to develop strategy for litigation and to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services.
  • Monitor changes to federal, state, and local employment laws and provide advice about necessary changes.
  • Review and revise employment policies, procedures, and trainings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance and support for company-wide initiatives.
  • Develop and conduct training for internal business clients regarding employment law matters.
  • Respond to legal inquiries, assisting A Real Estate Investment Trust Company personnel with regard to legal issues as needed.
  • Draft and review legal documents.
  • Assist in the interpretation of contract documents and in the resolution of disputes related to contract terms.
  • Provide support for collections matters, including assistance in structuring and improving procedures and practices for collection of receivables, and support in collections efforts.

Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials.
  • Attorney's License and admission to a state bar, in good standing, or the ability to register as in-house counsel.
  • Specific experience with California employment law a plus.

Experience/Minimum Requirements
Between 5 or more years of related legal experience
