Description:
Becoming a Special Assistant Public Defender would allow you to handle Post-Conviction Petition cases on a contract basis for A Government Entity Public Defender's Office.Essential Functions:
- Provide legal representation to an inmate of the Illinois Department of Corrections beginning with Stage 2 of the Post Conviction Petition process.
- You would review the case and court files, interact with the petitioner, and represent their legal interests through Stage 3 of the process.
- This representation does not include appeals.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
- Possess a strong working knowledge of Illinois criminal procedure.
- Have experience with criminal felony defense.
- Possess strong writing skills.
Education and/or Other Requirements:
- Juris Doctor Degree is required.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.
- Must possess your own malpractice insurance.
- Must have your own office space and transportation.
