An Oil Industry Company is seeking a tax attorney candidate to join its US Tax Advisory Team based in Houston.

The US Tax Advisory Team focuses on tax planning in U.S. consolidated group, partnership, international, and business tax matters. The Senior Tax Attorney, US Advice will work directly with a business line or corporate area with the ability to work flexibly across the U.S. and international or business advice space depending on experience.

Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for tax advice in consolidated return planning, mergers & acquisitions, new business development or structuring projects for Shell's dynamic business portfolio in the U.S.
  • Accountability for analyzing and writing legal memos and written advice to tax and non-tax stakeholders on US federal income tax laws as applied to the Shell Group and its business lines
  • Reporting to one of the U.S. Senior Tax Counsel Managers and work collaboratively with a dynamic team of tax attorneys and advisers to deliver high value and comprehensive direct tax advice impacting shareholder value
  • Developing and grow as a technician and in-house tax professional supporting activities spanning areas including – Advising, Structuring, Legislative Shaping, Dispute Resolution, Filing and Reporting

Requirements:
  • You must have legal authorization to work in the USA on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Minimum 5+ years of broad experience in U.S. federal income and international business taxation working for a multinational company or a professional firm
  • JD is required; JD/LLM and or JD/CPA is preferred
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas or another state or US jurisdiction
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting complex domestic or international transactions including corporate restructurings and mergers & acquisitions
  • You must have a technical knowledge and experience in U.S. domestic and international tax law (for example inbound/outbound taxation, relevant business tax planning, consolidated group attribute planning, acquisitions and divestments, structuring, partnerships, and tax treaties)
  • Fundamental understanding and knowledge of income tax accounting and tax provision preferred
  • Effective communicator of complex tax issues to non-tax professionals; both written and oral
  • Effective client/project management, task prioritization and establishing and utilizing external relationships and contacts for the benefit of Shell.
  • You must have the strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others internally and externally
  • Ability to adapt to new or changing circumstances and ambiguous or pressured situations
  • Demonstrates imagination and creativity in the evaluation of issues and development of possible solutions
  • Ability to recognize opportunities, spot and evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the business
