About the role:
The An American Bank Holding Company Legal Department is seeking a highly motivated attorney to serve as the primary counsel on a law of foundational importance to the company's major lines of business: the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The attorney in this position will join our small team of legal professionals focusing on rapidly evolving areas in privacy and consumer protection. This attorney will be responsible for FCRA legal interpretations and advice to numerous business-critical initiatives, advising on the CFPB's Regulation V, on issues concerning furnishers and users of consumer reports, and on issues pertaining to Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs).

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues within Legal, as well as with business, compliance, and risk partners across An American Bank Holding Company's lines of business. You will operate at the intersection of financial services and technology, and you will issue-spot, problem-solve, and innovate to assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risk in a challenging space.

To succeed in this role, you will need strong analytical and organizational skills, demonstrated judgment, the ability to express complexity in simple terms to non-experts, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a candidate with an ownership mentality who also enjoys being part of a team, who can interact with and influence across departments and job levels, and who always brings a good sense of humor to the party.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, at a government agency, or as in-house counsel

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A background in federal regulation, supervision, or enforcement
  • A background in consumer financial services law
  • At least 2 years of experience advising about or litigating the Fair Credit Reporting Act
  • Familiarity with Data Protection, Data Security or Data Privacy law

At this time, An American Bank Holding Company will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
