An American Autonomous Vehicle Company is seeking a commercial counsel to join our growing and dynamic legal team and help support the company's purpose of driving the future of freight. We are looking for a collaborative and creative thinker, whose role will include providing advice to departments across the company, including at the leadership level, and leading on a wide range of critical business objectives, including commercial transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, contract lifecycle management, insurance, and litigation support. As part of the team, this individual will play a key role in helping build the world's leading autonomous trucking solution by contributing to developing An American Autonomous Vehicle Company's go-to-market strategy and building out our future sales function.

What You'll Do:
  • Draft and negotiate contracts and other transactional documents, including customer or vendor agreements, licensing agreements, and services agreements.
  • Work closely with key business and legal partners to help define and lead key objectives
  • Collaborate closely with other legal team members and business clients on significant and business-critical legal issues to remove roadblocks and develop creative solutions
  • Lead efforts to build out and mature contract lifecycle management, including template library and other legal team processes
  • Develop playbooks and processes to enable efficient operation of new sales function
  • Provide counsel and support on internal investigations, contract disputes, or other legal matters
  • Assist in outside counsel management and support litigation efforts as needed

What You'll Need to Succeed:
  • Law degree from an accredited institution
  • Membership and good standing in a state Bar; eligibility and willingness to be admitted in Virginia or other applicable bar under either a Corporate Counsel Certificate or waiver
  • Counsel requires at least 3 years of experience in a law firm or in-house corporate legal department, with strong substantive experience in one or more relevant subjects; Senior Counsel requires at least 6 years of experience with demonstrated ability to lead significant transactions and other significant legal matters
  • Significant contract experience required
  • In-house corporate experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead cross-functional projects, identifying key stakeholders, and building relationships to meet high priority business needs on time
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth, nimble work environment
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn and effectively apply learnings within an evolving industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong business insight and judgment, team orientation and collaborative style
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines in an effective, discrete, and sensitive manner
