Position Summary:
As City Brewery's Senior Counsel, you will be the primary legal resource at the Company for a broad base of general corporate and employment law matters. You will partner with leaders in Human Resources, Procurement, Business Development and other business functions to provide responsive and practical advice on labor and employment issues and a range of general corporate matters, including commercial contracts. A successful hire will display general corporate knowledge, as well as labor and employment knowledge related to: compensation and benefits, hiring, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, performance management and discipline, terminations, traditional labor, corporate reorganizations and contingent worker issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Corporate Law
  • Proactively review and develop policies and procedures for the Company's commercial contract and customer contract functions.
  • Manage the review of all commercial and customer contracts, including creation and implementation of forms.
  • Assist in a broad range of general corporate matters, including alcohol regulatory, real estate and corporate governance matters.

Employment Law
  • Proactively review and develop employment policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with complex and rapidly changing international, federal, state, and local laws on diverse employment matters.
  • Provide assistance for internal investigations as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of defending employment-related disputes and litigation including responding to complaints and attorney demand letters, drafting responses to administrative charges, participating in mediation, and supervising outside counsel.
  • Partner with Human Resources on matters impacting employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement including responding to grievances and developing strategies for negotiations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various projects to support and maintain compliance with employment laws.
  • Prepare and present training on employment and labor issues to Human Resources and business leaders.
  • Responsible for identifying and recommending remedial measures, best practices, and other action items as appropriate to further the company's employment law compliance.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or as may be necessary, such as advising on the labor, employment, and benefits issues of mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited institution and active membership in good standing with any state bar
  • 5-7 years of experience in a law firm, government, or in-house position required
  • In-house corporate legal department experience with a focus on labor and employment law, highly preferred
  • Knowledge of state, and federal laws/regulations related to employment law issues preferred (Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, WARN, etc.)
  • Unquestionable integrity and ability to maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to distill legal issues for executives and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, coworkers, and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with clients and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent judgment in knowing how to proactively issue spot, escalate issues, and propose solutions.
  • Strong project management experience and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead a project from initiation to completion.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, all domestic
