The Senior Associate General Counsel provides a wide range of legal services for A Medical Care Services Company System and its affiliates (YNHH). The Senior Associate General Counsel must be able to lead strategic initiatives in partnership with business counterparts, work autonomously, and as a collaborative team member in the Legal & Risk Services Department.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides day to day legal advice to YNHH leadership and executives on issues related to the operation and management of healthcare providers within YNHH, including, but not limited to:
    • Medical staff
    • Professional services and employment agreements with physicians
    • Medicare reimbursement issues
    • Management services and other compliance arrangements
    • Fraud and abuse
    • Stark Law
    • HIPPA/HITECH
    • Contracts and leases
    • Corporate governance
    • Research and grant contracts and issues
    • Tax exemption matters
    • Licensing and regulatory issues
    • Patient care related issues
    • Responses to governmental investigations
    • Antitrust issues
    • Joint ventures (with physicians and others)
    • Asset purchases and other significant transactions
  • Provide legal advice affecting the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and business operations.3. Selects and retains outside counsel as needed, and manages legal expenses in subject matter areas of responsibility.
  • Identifies critical legal risk exposure matters.
  • Assists with or direct supervision of Department paralegals.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Deputy General Counsel and Sr. Vice President /General Counsel.

Qualifications:
Education:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Experience:
At least fifteen years of experience in corporate health care practice required. Some portion of that time in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Licensure:
Current admission to the Connecticut Bar (as Authorized House Counsel or otherwise) or ability to waive in or achieve bar membership in a timely fashion.

Interacts with other Legal & Risk Services personnel to ensure that legal services are provided to YNHH in a timely, practical and cost effective manner consistent with the mission and values of the organization. Demonstrates a spirit of teamwork, offering positive and constructive ideas, encouragement and support to other members of the Legal & Risk Services Department. Able to effectively supervise the development and oversee work product of the Department's more junior professional staff. Capable of leading strategic initiatives.
