Job Duties:
The Senior Assistant Attorney General/Section Chief for the Real Estate & Land Use (RELU) Section is responsible for providing strategic leadership, legal expertise, and management oversight to the attorneys and paralegals within the section. This position plays a pivotal role in advising and representing the Commonwealth of Virginia (Commonwealth) on complex real estate and land use matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and safeguarding the interests of the Commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to use judgment, tact and discretion.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with the ability to effectively supervise and mentor attorneys and paralegals.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing abilities, with a track record of delivering high-quality legal work products under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus, resolve conflicts, and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate and function as the lead attorney on the state or national level in highly complex matters.
  • Knowledge of the law related to real estate and land use developed through academic training, seminars, and legal work experience in the specialty area.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Skills of persuasion and consensus building.
  • Ability to review processes and suggest where efficiencies can be implemented.
  • Demonstrated proficiency/computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic document management systems.
  • Virginia Bar licensed.
