Introduction:
An Insurance Company seeks a versatile, accomplished lawyer with at least five to seven years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

Preferred candidates will have litigation experience in state and federal courts, with experience in insurance coverage, bad faith litigation, professional liability defense, contract interpretation, and statutory interpretation. The candidate will benefit from experience with various types of insurance coverage, including general liability, professional liability, and workers' compensation insurance. Experience with construction disputes, environmental matters, or internal investigations would be relevant but not required. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, excellent critical thinking and analytical ability, proven organizational ability, work well within a team, and be a self-starter.

This role will report to a senior attorney inside GB's legal department, and work within a small team of attorneys and professionals led by GB's General Counsel.

How you'll make an impact
  • Proactively and cost effectively manage disputes and litigation arising from GB's insurance and consulting operations, including active management of outside counsel.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and defend against professional liability demands and related disputes.
  • Manage and respond to subpoenas for documents and testimony.
  • Advise stakeholders on legal exposure arising from disputes, and provide proactive legal advice to mitigate risk in connection with GB's operations.
  • Serve as a key business and legal partner by virtue of technical competence, excellent judgment and ability to develop relationships throughout the organization. Interface effectively with employees and management at all levels.
  • Collaborate with management and other attorneys.

About You:
Required:
  • Law degree and 7 years related experience required.

Highly Preferred:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law under the Bar of any state that enables admission to practice as in-house counsel in Illinois.
  • At least 5-7 years' relevant experience in a law firm or corporate setting.
