General Summary:
A Multinational Semiconductor and Telecommunications Equipment Company is seeking an experienced attorney to support its Technology Licensing division in San Diego, California. This attorney will primarily draft and negotiate patent license agreements in support of A Multinational Semiconductor and Telecommunications Equipment Company's industry-leading patent licensing program and will also generally advise and support the patent licensing program, including providing support for litigation and the company's efforts relating to patent licensing policy. We are looking for candidates who are proactive, have extraordinary attention to detail, and show excellent judgment. We value candidates that work independently and collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house.
  • Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The Legal Counsel, Senior's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating patent license agreements.
  • Supporting the litigation team in connection with any patent enforcement actions brought by A Multinational Semiconductor and Telecommunications Equipment Company and responding to third-party discovery requests relating to A Multinational Semiconductor and Telecommunications Equipment Company's patent licensing business.
  • Advising other business units on licensing-related legal matters.
  • Supporting the company's efforts relating to patent licensing policy and advocacy, particularly regarding FRAND licensing practices for standard essential patents.
  • Coordinating with other legal team members and outside counsel on cross-functional matters.
  • Developing and maintaining standard templates, policies, and procedures for technology transactions.
  • Providing training and guidance to business teams on technology agreements and related topics.

Skills and experience required:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from accredited college/university.
  • Active bar admission in CA or qualification to obtain admission in CA (including in-house counsel admission).
  • 9+ years of relevant experience practicing law at a law firm or in-house, including substantial experience in patent litigation and/or patent license negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in intellectual property laws.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a proactive and problem-solving mindset, while managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong work ethic and dedication, proactive engagement on issues, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and ability to think and act strategically and tactically, while demonstrating sound business judgment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Technical or Engineering field.
  • 10+ years of overall experience in patent litigation and patent license negotiation, including at least 4 years of law firm patent litigation experience and at least 3 years of experience with contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Significant experience relating to the licensing of standard essential patents, FRAND issues, cellular communications, multimedia, semiconductors, software, and/or related technologies.
