The Role:
An American Manufacturing Company is looking to hire a mid-level intellectual property attorney to serve as a principal advisor for one or more of our key product categories. You will work with others in the Legal Department, including international colleagues, and outside counsel, to provide seamless service to our internal clients.

Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Counseling business and engineering leadership on IP strategy and risks.
  • Managing the patent portfolio for the business division.
  • Managing patent litigation and pre-litigation work relating to the assigned product categories and support litigation activity associated with other product categories.
  • Conducting infringement assessment of competitor systems.
  • Provide IP support in transactional matters, including technology licensing.
  • Identifying inventions originating from the assigned product categories.
  • Running patent committee meetings.
  • Completing freedom to practice studies for the assigned product categories.
  • Managing the patent marking program for the assigned product categories.
    • Manage outside counsel.

Requirements for the Position Include:
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school, admission to at least one U.S. state bar, and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a law firm or in-house legal department as an intellectual property attorney; combination of law firm and in-house experience is a plus. EE, ME, Computer Science/Computer Engineering, or Physics technical backgrounds are preferred.
  • Excellent analytical ability and professional judgment; experience balancing business needs and potential compliance risks; skill at developing practical creative solutions that advance important business objectives while minimizing potential legal risks.
  • Ability to influence senior executives and business leaders.
  • Ability to drive results on a broad range of projects and initiatives, collaborating across business units.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize many tasks to deliver timely, high-quality work; responsive with a customer focused orientation.
