About the role:
We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to join our team and help manage rapid growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Counsel will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to the senior management team, ensuring that the company manages growth strategically and with integrity. We are a company that collects and builds algorithms on audio visual data captured in the home, as such the right candidate will have strong experience in technology and data privacy. This role will also partner with the CEO and CFO on financing and strategic opportunities.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Oversee and act as the primary contact for all legal matters at A Smart Baby Monitor ensuring compliance with applicable laws and adoption of best practices, including board management
  • Partner with CTO to harden our security practice and ensure we continue to have a high standard for data privacy while meeting the business needs
  • Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including but not limited to, data and privacy agreements, vendor agreements and partnership agreements, expertly walking the line of legal compliance, integrity and business growth
  • Help manage the company's IP portfolio. Consult on patent, copyright and trademark matters
  • Partner closely with Product, AI and Manufacturing Teams that require legal guidance on new product launches, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Help identify legal risks and develop procedures to help minimize legal exposure for the company
  • Manage all aspects of litigation, including partnering with outside counsel where necessary. Develop effective strategies to resolve disputes efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide legal support on the company's strategic transactions. Conduct due diligence and assist with negotiation and documentation.

Who You Are:
  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
  • 12+ years of post JD experience, including prior experience in GC role or leadership experience as internal counsel
  • Prior experience working with healthcare, tech/SaaS or product companies
  • Excellent judgment
  • Self starter with a strong desire to grow. Passionate about working for a mission driven company.
  • Strategic thinker and do-er. Strong business acumen and strong understanding of business objectives and KPIs
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with impeccable attention to detail
  • Expert in data privacy and security, knowledge of contract law, intellectual property law, and corporate governance principles
  • Comfortable consulting internal teams and advising external partners, while exercising high judgment and maintaining discreet confidentiality
  • High ethical standards and demonstrated integrity
  • Demonstrated ability working across a broad range of responsibilities independently in a high velocity environment

This is a hybrid role that will require prospective candidates to be in our NYC headquarters 2-3 days per week
