What We Are Looking For
The General Counsel and Compliance Officer (“GCCO”) will be an integral part of the North American legal and compliance team. The GCCO's responsibility on the one hand is to preview, negotiate and draft commercial contracts. On the other hand, compliance is a relevant part of the responsibility. The GCCO will also provide day-to-day advice and guidance to help each business unit meets its objectives by developing a deep understanding of the laws and regulations applicable to the task at hand. In addition, the GCCO will have split duties between legal and compliance. More specifically, the GCCO will handle compliance matters and implementation of the compliance management system in alignment with the General Counsel and international Compliance functions.

Legal team members handle, prioritize and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously. This provides excellent opportunities to learn the many aspects of the business and a great opportunity to work on a wide breadth of interesting and challenging matters with other highly motivated professionals. Compliance also adds a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.:
  • Draft, review and negotiate broad range of commercial agreements with our customers and suppliers, including but not limited to, Non-Disclosure Agreements, OEM terms and conditions, Master Services Agreements, subcontractor agreements, Full and Final Releases, licensing agreements etc.
  • Provide support in defending the organization in lawsuits/legal claims as well as in the prosecution of lawsuits on behalf of the organization against others.
  • Conduct, research and provide interpretations, opinions and recommendations on business operations issues and on legislation and regulations that may affect the organization.
  • Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the company's legality and business ethics.
  • Support legal entities in the United States and Mexico complying with applicable laws and following Rheinmetall's international requirements related to compliance, especially anti-corruption.
  • Maintain, adjust and implement, where necessary, Rheinmetall's compliance management program in North America to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Create solutions for local requirements and implement to ensure compliance.
  • Advise staff and management on FCPA and other compliance related topics, such as gifts and hospitality, donation and sponsoring, etc.
  • Perform checks on relevant business partners and advise staff and management to mitigate associated risks.
  • Prepare and conduct trainings for staff and management on compliance related topics to ensure adequate training levels or requirements, policies and processes.
  • Identify weaknesses and facilitate remediation of identified risks to prevent violations.
  • Identify potential misconduct or policy violations. Conduct respective compliance investigations independent of the source of the information.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws/regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Provide legal counsel on labor and employment matters, including matters involving FMLA, ADA, discrimination, etc. as well as gathering information for and drafting responses to agency complaints.

What Qualifications You Should Have

  • Education and/or Experience: Must be a graduate of an accredited law school with three (3) to six (6) years of related experience and be admitted to the state bar.
  • Hybrid Work Model: This position allows for up to 50% remote work.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Requires a valid driver's license and valid passport.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, etc.
