A Criminal Law Firm seeks a highly motivated and experienced attorney to join our dynamic legal team in Columbia, SC. Responsibilities:
  • Conduct investigations, gather evidence, analyze case facts, and formulate defense strategies for clients with criminal charges.
  • Conduct initial consultations with clients to evaluate their cases, explain legal rights, and advise on potential outcomes and options.
  • Represent clients in various legal proceedings, including arraignments, bail hearings, pre-trial hearings, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Present arguments, cross-examine witnesses, challenge evidence, and protect clients' interests.
  • Conduct thorough legal research on statutes, case law, and precedents to develop defense strategies.
  • Collaborate with legal assistants, investigators, and experts to gather evidence and strengthen defense strategies.
  • Engage in negotiations with prosecutors to seek favorable plea bargains or settlements on behalf of clients.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the State Bar Association of South Carolina
  • Proven experience in legal drafting, negotiation, and litigation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience:
  • Previous experience (at least two years) in criminal defense but we are open to hiring exceptional candidates who have completed law school
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
