About the Position:
The Counsel, Transactions will work under the leadership of the Chief Legal Officer to support the mission of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (the “Foundation”). The Counsel's primary areas of practice will include support of the Foundation's contracts, real estate, hospitality, licensing and development teams.

Essential Functions:
  • Working with a variety of internal clients to support the substantial volume and wide variety of commercial agreements generated by the Foundation.
  • Handling other projects and assuming other responsibilities as needed, involving the extremely wide range of legal issues faced by the Foundation.
  • Providing high-quality support and advice to business clients across the organization.
  • Maintaining a high standard of client responsiveness.
  • Required and Preferred Education and Experience:

Required:
J.D. degree and Virginia bar membership, or eligibility to practice under Virginia's in-house practice rule.

Special Skills:
  • A high degree of flexibility.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and in writing. The ability to communicate effectively with business clients and the staff of the Office of the General Counsel.

Qualifications:
Required: Qualified candidates will have two or more years of experience practicing law with a focus on commercial transactions, trusts, estates, and/or intellectual property.

Preferred: Understanding of and a passion for early American history and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's educational mission, That the Future May Learn from the Past.
