We're looking for an exceptional lawyer who can be a trusted partner to Policygenius marketplace business and the Legal, Compliance and Risk team.

To thrive in this role, you should be curious, detail-oriented, and independent. The Counsel will play a critical role in the internal legal and compliance function. Reporting into the Associate General Counsel, Policygenius, the Counsel will assist with analysis and legal advice on product initiatives, insurance marketplace partnerships, and regulatory and compliance issues.

What You'll Do:
  • Advise on a variety of legal issues, particularly related to insurance regulatory issues
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to provide feedback and support regarding strategy and materials, policies, procedures, and trainings
  • Provide feedback to the Policygenius Pro B2B team to identify product and regulatory issues in advance of contracting
  • Prepare responses to regulatory inquiries
  • Assist in litigation matters
  • Research, track, and report on industry, commercial, insurance regulatory, privacy and other laws, regulations, and developments to give the most effective advice, including identification of potential risks or impact on business strategy
  • Concisely explain legal terms, identify related risks, and recommend tactics to achieve the most favorable, risk-mitigated results
  • Partner with other members of the Legal, Compliance and Risk team to implement compliance initiatives, including assessments of applicable laws and regulations
  • Be a utility player, taking on opportunities and adding value in practice areas beyond the Policygenius marketplace, including assisting other members of the Legal, Compliance and Risk team on a variety of special projects, as needed

What You'll Need:
  • 5+ years of legal and/or compliance experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department and strong academic credentials, including a JD
  • Experience providing guidance on regulatory issues, particularly related to insurance or marketing
  • Familiarity with insurance or financial products, or have experience working with product teams in a consumer-facing environment
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills and a keen attention to detail
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure, work independently, and handle multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Natural curiosity, with a desire to learn new areas of law
  • The ability to work collaboratively across various functions and with colleagues at all levels
