Summary of Position:
An Independent Exploration and Production Company is multi-basin exploration and production company and is Colorado's first carbon-neutral oil and gas producer. The Company is conducting a national search for an experienced, motivated individual with excellent academic and professional credentials to fill the position of Litigation Counsel.

The position will be responsible for providing comprehensive litigation-centered legal services to the Company's Rockies and Permian business units. The position will report to An Independent Exploration and Production Company's Associate General Counsel and will be based in a An Independent Exploration and Production Company office location of the candidate's choosing in Denver (CO), the Woodlands (TX), or Midland (TX).

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the Company's complex litigation, mediation, and arbitration matters.
  • Facilitate effective resolutions to Company disputes.
  • Summarize, report, and communicate effectively to business units other stakeholders on the status of pending litigation.
  • Effectively partner with and manage outside counsel.
  • Coordinate discovery, including preparing interviews, arranging depositions, assisting with interrogatories, and collecting document production.
  • Refine and maintain corporate policies on document management and retention.
  • Undertake and manage incident and internal investigations.
  • Support the Company's business units with pre-litigation writing skills, and advise and issue-spot on litigation related business risk.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex disputes and issues.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of complex and varied claims and disputes.
  • Proficiency with electronic discovery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Succeeds working in a team environment and partnering with internal clients, other in-house counsel, and outside counsel.
  • Strong ethical compass and a commitment to compliance with laws and regulations.

Education & Experience:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school, active bar license such to comply with applicable jurisdiction's in-house practice rules (Texas, New Mexico, and/or Colorado preferred).
  • 5+ years of law practice at premier firm with substantial experience in high-stakes, complex litigation.
  • Oil and Gas experience preferred.

Travel Requirements:
  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
  • Occasional travel may be required to the An Independent Exploration and Production Company corporate offices, along with field locations and work sites.
