The Bay Area Legal Office of A Government Entity Legal Division is seeking wellqualified, highly motivated individuals who want to work in a multifaceted public entity law office on a wide variety of legal matters. Our attorneys represent A Government Entity in State and Federal courts in all phases of litigation and trial work. They also advise and assist the A Government Entity in delivering projects.

We are currently seeking candidates interested in handling litigation, including trial work, with experience in some or all of the following practice areas: Tort, Eminent Domain, Inverse Condemnation, Environmental and real property/land use law, Employment, Construction Contract Disputes, Appellate Practice and in-house transactional work.

The Bay Area Legal Office is located in Oakland and is a mid-size legal office with approximately 30 attorneys handling legal matters for A Government Entity' Districts 1, 4 and 5 which geographically span the California coastal counties from the Oregon border to Santa Barbara, including the nine Bay Area Counties. The office offers a supportive and dynamic work environment where attorneys are given substantial responsibility and opportunities for professional growth and development at every stage of their careers.

Junior attorneys are assigned to a practice group and are trained in all aspects of the practice. They are given early opportunities to develop their skills by engaging in trial and writ practice. Mid-level attorneys are expected to handle all aspects of a case including taking and defending depositions, taking cases to trial as first or second chair counsel and appellate work.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Attorney III Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
