The Data Strategy, Security, and Privacy team is seeking an associate with 2-4 years legal experience to focus on data strategy counseling and privacy compliance work. We are looking for someone interested in applying evolving laws to data-driven products and to assist our team in advising clients on the development of enterprise privacy programs; the operational impact of draft and newly-enacted privacy legislation; consumer disclosures and internal policy documents related to privacy and data use; and the privacy and security risks in product design, operational use cases, and proposed business partnerships. Although not be the focus of the position, the individual may also be asked to assist the team with incident response and transactional diligence from time-to-time. EOE. M/F/D/V.

This candidate must reside and be barred in a jurisdiction where we currently have a U.S. office location. We are open to candidates in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa, or Washington DC.

This position may be filled in New York, Colorado and California. In accordance with the New York State Pay Transparency Law, New York City Human Rights Law, the Colorado Equal Pay Act, and the California Pay Transparency Law, the pay range for this position in New York State, New York City, Colorado, and California is $330,000 - $415,000/yr. This range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations. An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience.

Job Requirements:
  • 2-4 years legal experience
  • Admission to bar in state of practice
  • Experience providing legal advice on privacy and/or data strategy issues
  • Familiarity with the California Consumer Privacy Act/California Privacy Rights Act and other comprehensive US state privacy laws; work on other US and international privacy and security laws such as COPPA, GDPR, BIPA, GLBA, and VPPA a plus
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to draft memos in business-friendly language.
  • Prior technology experience helpful (e.g. software development or employment at tech company)
  • CIPP/US certification preferred
