As a trusted legal advisor, you will play a critical role in providing practical and creative advice to help the enterprise manage privacy and AI risks. In addition, you will have opportunities to develop and grow your professional acumen by working with more experienced attorneys to provide legal advice to our internal partners from various areas, including Corporate Finance, IT, the Corporate Secretary, Tax, and Corporate Development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct risk assessments on privacy incidents and recommend an appropriate course of action including steps for remediation or notification.
  • Evaluate and provide legal guidance on new technologies and processes that may impact Standard's data and advise on ways to reduce or mitigate unwanted risk.
  • Assist in creating or updating procedures and tools to help the company manage sensitive data.
  • Assist with responses to audits and market conduct exams conducted by State and Federal agencies.
  • Draft, analyze and review contracts to minimize legal risk and maximize business opportunity, especially privacy-related contracts.
  • Assist in developing workflows and processes that support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Analyze developments in laws and regulations impacting our insurance and financial services.
  • Act as a trusted partner by effectively informing stakeholders of potential risks and outcomes, demonstrating a holistic understanding of business goals and risks.
  • Collaborating with a team of lawyers to ensure the best outcomes for our client.
  • Provide accurate, comprehensive legal advice understandable and digestible by lay people.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and receive feedback from partners.

The Skills and Background You'll Need:
  • Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence.
  • Bar Admission: Admitted or eligible for admission to practice in State of Oregon.
  • Experience advising on privacy matters and/or data security matters, a preference for familiarity and experience regarding applicable privacy laws to the insurance and financial services sectors (GLBA, HIPAA)
  • Strong communications skills, including ability to produce clear, concise, complete, and persuasive work product, and active listening and persuasive advising required.
  • Demonstrated history of working closely with internal business partners as a strategic partner to identify and prioritize business needs and assess and communicate risk preferred.
  • Ability to deliver successful presentations to internal and external audiences preferred.
  • Knowledge of tax advantage investments (e.g. QOZ), M&A, Corporate Governance preferred.
