Opportunity:
This position will report to the Employment Team Leader. The successful candidate will primarily support a wide range of employee benefits matters. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day benefits advice to senior executives, the human resources Division and other business leaders; partner to achieve firm workforce objectives while mitigating risk; and help lead the company in its compliance with employee benefits laws and regulations. The successful candidate is highly motivated and proactive, drives for solutions that balance legal and business concerns, enjoys working hard and being challenged, and communicates and collaborates effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advice and guidance related to the design, implementation and administration of benefit plans (health and welfare, 401(k), profit sharing) to ensure compliance.
  • Draft and revise benefit plan documents and summary plan descriptions, including amendments and summary of material modifications.
  • Draft and review firm plan forms and communications, including 5500s, SARs, Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting, 404a, and QDIA notices, etc.
  • Advise on laws affecting benefits, including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA and COBRA and the Internal Revenue Code, state benefits laws, and assist with employee training on such laws as needed.
  • Provide legal support to benefits related efforts including the review, evaluation, and implementation of new benefits options.
  • Assist with negotiation, drafting and review of benefits vendor contracts and contracts with investment managers.
  • Provide advice on the claims and appeals process and assist with communications.
  • Attend meeting of internal plan fiduciary committees and counsel internal fiduciary committees regarding benefits matters.
  • Provide legal support for executive compensation, equity compensation, and deferred compensation plan design, implementation and administration.
  • Advise and provide support to employment-related matters as needed.
  • Scope of work and responsibility is for the entire firm (40,000 associates)

The salary range for this role is based on national data and actual pay is based on skills, experience, education, and other relevant factors for a potential new associate:

Hiring Minimum: $163,886

Hiring Maximum: $279,048

Skill/Requirements
  • J.D. and license to practice in Missouri or an equivalent state
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility as an attorney in relevant practice area
  • Exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legal area and regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex matters
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships
