Job Overview:An Appellate Law Firm is a boutique law firm headquartered in New Jersey with offices in Montclair, Red Bank, New York City and Miami. SH&N is seeking a mid-level associate with 3-7 years of litigation experience to join its expanding team in Montclair, New Jersey. The associate will work closely with the firm's attorneys in all phases of our sophisticated litigation practice and will have the opportunity to take on significant responsibilities at an early stage of their career, while working in a supportive and collegial environment.
Duties:
- Conducting legal research
- Drafting pleadings, including complex complaints in commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts
- Drafting briefs for various motions, including discovery-related motions, appeals, and dispositive motions
- Playing a significant role in all phases of discovery, including preparing and responding to discovery requests, managing document discovery, taking and defending depositions, and litigating discovery disputes
- Participating in case development, including through witness interviews
- Presenting arguments in court
- Interacting directly with clients, adversaries, and third-parties, such as experts and e-discovery vendors
- Assisting in trials, arbitrations, and mediations
Qualifications:
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail, good judgment, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude
- Motivated to develop skills as a litigator
- 3-7 years of commercial litigation experience
- Judicial clerkship is preferred
- Experience in federal and state court is preferred
- Admitted to the New Jersey bar; admission to the New York bar is a plus
