An Insurance Company seeks an experienced attorney to join the Law and Compliance Department as a lawyer supporting product development and management, operational implementation, and marketing and distribution for our Life and Annuities Business Unit. This position will be based in Zionsville, Indiana or Waltham, MA (hybrid work schedule) but can also be remote.

The attorney will join the Product, Operations and Distribution team responsible for providing legal advice in connection with the design, implementation, and distribution of fixed, fixed indexed and variable annuities, life insurance and other products and services. The team is responsible for developing insurance contracts for filings with state insurance departments, drafting and filing registration statements with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, providing legal support for operations and administration, marketing and sales of annuities and life insurance products, and monitoring new legal and regulatory developments affecting those products.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Providing general legal support in connection with the design and development, operational implementation, and marketing and distribution of fixed, fixed indexed, and variable annuities and other life insurance products issued by the insurance companies in An Insurance Company's Life and Annuities Business Unit.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and other documentation relating to the marketing and distribution of annuity and life insurance products.
  • Researching and preparing written analysis of law applicable to the annuities and life insurance products businesses of the Life and Annuities Business Unit.
  • Providing solutions to create and maintain competitive business advantages while also properly identifying and, when appropriate, mitigating commercial, regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Working closely with internal and external resources in a team environment on all aspects of product development, from product concept to product launch.
  • Keeping apprised of legal developments affecting annuities and life insurance businesses
  • Working on or leading projects or cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:
  • Law degree required
  • Admission to the bar of at least one state and eligibility for admission to the Indiana/Illinois/Massachusetts bar, as applicable, if not already admitted
  • At least 10 years of relevant legal experience with a law firm, regulator, or in-house legal department
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations affecting annuity contracts and life insurance policies
  • Knowledge of federal securities regulations affecting variable annuities and life insurance
  • Familiarity with tax regulation affecting annuity contracts and life insurance policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong project and time-management skills; ability to work diligently in an environment of short deadlines and competing priorities with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Highly proficient at drafting clear, concise, and accessible legal advice and contract language
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
