The Assistant General Counsel – Compliance will be a key member of the Legal & Compliance Department providing direct support to all members of the Legal Leadership Team and senior management, including the General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel – Compliance will be responsible for further developing, and will lead the continued implementation of, the Company's global corporate compliance program, working closely with the Vice President & Associate General Counsel – Litigation, Compliance & Regulatory and the General Counsel (who is also the Company's Chief Compliance Officer). The Assistant General Counsel – Compliance may, from time to time, be needed to assist in commercial litigation and other disputed matters involving the Company worldwide.

The Role:
  • Partner with the Associate General Counsel – Litigation, Compliance & Regulatory and the General Counsel in all corporate compliance matters, including designing and implementing compliance awareness campaigns and training Company personnel at all levels and at various locations worldwide on compliance matters.
  • Help maintain compliance with a well-developed corporate compliance program per OIG and DOJ guidance.
  • Serve as the lead attorney in performing / overseeing investigations and preparing reports concerning alleged compliance violations.
  • Provide general advice to management on a day-to-day basis for the accomplishment of the overall business objectives of the Company in compliance with applicable laws and the Company's Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Create and update written policies, guidance, and training to support an effective compliance program, reinforce adherence with industry codes, and foster a culture of integrity.
  • Partner with the Associate General Counsel – Litigation, Compliance & Regulatory and other functions to ensure adherence to US and global data protection and data privacy laws.
  • Make presentations/lead trainings to Company personnel on compliance and privacy matters as needed.
  • Provide periodic support, as needed, on A Multinational Corporation Headquartered in Somerset, New Jersey's response to various disputed matters, including claims, arbitrations, and litigation involving customers, suppliers, regulators, and others.
  • Review, analyze and advise on arbitration and litigation matters, and analyze witness testimony and Company documents related to such matters.

The Candidate:
  • JD (Juris Doctor) degree from an accredited law school with a strong academic record is required.
  • 5+ years of substantive compliance and litigation experience of which must include compliance program and policy experience
  • A blend of experience in a law firm as well as in-house experience is required; in-house at a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company and/or at a firm counseling life-science clients is strongly preferred
  • Experience with privacy, information security, and compliance laws and regulations is required; CIPP, CIPM, and CCEP certifications are preferred.
  • Bar admission and admitted to practice in New Jersey (NJ in-house admission is acceptable)
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills, with an ability to cogently and succinctly synthesize complex legal and compliance issues to essential elements for clients throughout the organization with different abilities and responsibilities.

  • In-depth understanding of the laws, regulations, and codes/guidance governing the US healthcare industry as well recent enforcement actions and policy initiatives
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive situations or information with an ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at all levels throughout the Company.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to assume complex projects, create and present a plan of action, and independently manage projects to resolution or conclusion.
  • Willingness to travel when needed to various locations around the world to investigate and supervise legal matters and provide guidance, advice, and training.
