Trade Counsel (telecommuter)

The Trade Counsel role will provide legal and government relations counsel to the Flex Global Trade function, senior management and segments related to trade controls, including regulatory analysis, trade compliance advice, trade compliance investigations support, trade auditing support, compliance training for corporate elements, trade compliance reviews for agreements, trade relations counselling, and global trade strategy.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:
  • Responsible for advising on and implementing export and import compliance, trade sanctions, investigations and disclosures, customs rules, compliance audits, as well as on other regulatory compliance matters
  • Advise on export and import compliance matters related to U.S. and international trade regimes and serve as the primary point of contact for related compliance questions
  • Lead and conduct investigations in the US and abroad, working with cross-functional teams to oversee this effort
  • Provide legal counsel with customers or suppliers primarily on export controls
  • Support contractual provisions and language on related trade compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts globally on internal trade compliance programs and initiatives, including developing and improving policies, processes and training
  • Conduct analysis of trade laws and regulations applicable to Flex, and prepare internal reports regarding the policy landscape, as well as the impact to Flex’s business strategy
  • Research and stay abreast of emerging trade compliance topics
  • Participate in relevant trade compliance associations and industry group discussions
  • Undertake special projects and support other compliance program initiatives

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):
  • Minimum of 4-7 years trade compliance experience in law firm, in-house or government preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with compliance program management, including conducting investigations, creation/revision of compliance documentation, and successful implementation of policies, processes and training programs
  • Law degree, with active bar membership
  • Proficiency in the English language

Here is some of our preferred experiences:
  • Familiarity with non-US regimes is helpful
  • Familiarity with US import regulations, customs, duties preferred
  • Familiarity with related national security regulations preferred, including the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)
  • Experience in government relations and trade strategy deployment
