Student Staff Attorney

The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic is committed to the belief that access to exceptional advocacy for all members of the community is a crucial component of a free society and that a positive experience with the legal system can be life changing. Through education and outreach, the clinic also seeks to empower its clients to advocate effectively for themselves and to help navigate the challenges posed by our complicated system of justice

The Staff Attorney will not maintain any form of outside practice and will not represent private clients or take any new cases without Director’s approval. The Staff Attorney will be given an opportunity for professional growth through a wide variety of responsibilities including,
  • Client interviews
  • Crafting strategy, case theory and general advocacy
  • Prepare and file pleadings
  • Appear at court proceedings
  • Provide supervision for law student interns and externs
  • Assist in all educational roles
  • Attend meetings when necessary
  • Be a representative of The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic at specific functions.
  • Aid in the recruitment of student externs.
  • Assist in fundraising for and promotion of the WBLAC.
  • Participate in Life Skills classes and assist in developing new programs to assist clients.
  • Minimally work 8 hours per day, 8:30 A.M.-4:30 P.M. unless otherwise arranged with Clinic Director
  • Assist and support Clinic Director as necessary.

  • Be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
