The role: The Senior Privacy and Compliance Counsel is a terrific opportunity to work in a fast paced environment in a key role that combines legal advisory and compliance functions. You will be able to operate independently and work collaboratively within the broader Legal Team as well as cross-functionally and with business partners. What you’ll do:
Stay abreast of strategically important laws and regulations in the US and the EU, such as HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA and GDPR and related state and federal legislation.
Manage and further develop Zenefits’ Risk Management, Compliance and Privacy Programs.
Manage and facilitate privacy and other Zenefits compliance policies, compliance training, procedures, documentation, company guidance, and related customer and employee requests and escalations.
Help ensure legal adherence and other compliance adherence, while enabling the development and execution of business initiatives.
Provide legal and compliance guidance related to payroll tax compliance and operational functions.
Perform other legal responsibilities as requested, including but not limited to, commercial agreement review from time to time.
What you'll bring:
JD from an accredited institution.
Licensed member in good standing of any US state bar.
6-9 years of substantive experience in privacy and data protection matters, preferably in the technology sector at a consumer facing SaaS technology company.
Demonstrated knowledge of US and international privacy and data protection laws.
Understanding of Software as a Service (SaaS) infrastructure.
Curiosity with a need to understand how things work and a willingness to dive into the details of business operations, procedures and technicalities to craft and optimize solutions.
Solution orientation and a can do attitude.
The ability to educate others - you like to break down complicated laws and regulations into practical advice and guidance for your business partners and build positive relationships across departments and levels.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in knowing when and how to raise issues and propose solutions.
In addition to the above requirements, these qualifications are strongly preferred:
SOC2 program management experience
Experience with AML and Bank Secrecy Act compliance
