The Senior Counsel is a cross-functional attorney tasked with addressing commercial lease resolution matters including evictions and other related issues. Must utilize a hands-on and versatile approach while ensuring quality, timeliness and best possible outcomes. The ideal candidate will serve as an advisor to management and staff, while providing highly proactive legal solutions and counsel.
This role is an individual contributor role that reports into the Lead Counsel for Real Estate. At this level, the Senior Counsel provides input, guidance and support on organizational and legal issues and works independently on a broad array of legal issues. This position will be located in Milford, Connecticut.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing commercial leasing matters related to landlord tenant issues including negotiation of lease settlement terms
Actively managing Connecticut-based lease litigation and eviction matters
Drafting various settlement agreements and other lease resolution legal documents
Selecting, managing and advising outside counsel on a variety of commercial leasing matters
Communicating with the Field and Business Development Agents and their staff, on matter statuses and best course of resolution
Skills And Experience This position requires an experienced attorney with business savvy and strategic thinking capabilities, with both the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have:
Excellent academic credentials which include a J.D. from a top-ranked law school
Admission to a U.S. state bar, ability to be admitted to the federal bar
Minimum 5 years' relevant legal experience in real estate and commercial leasing
Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
Experience with commercial real estate and leases
Knowledge of franchising a plus!
Experience with case tracking software, EXCEL, WESTLAW and PACER
Flexibility and the ability to work through multi-party disputes
