Workday is seeking an outstanding lawyer with 10+ years legal experience to join their growing Go-To-Market legal team. This role will serve as Workday’s transactional counsel to support go-to-market sales for Workday’s newly acquired affiliate Scout RFP and liaise with the broader Workday legal team as we work aggressively to integrate Scout into Workday. This role will be primarily based out of our office in San Francisco, California. We need a strong SaaS transactional counsel, with excellent business judgment and interpersonal skills, keen understanding of data privacy and security issues, and creative problem-solving capabilities to close deals and refine the Scout legal terms and go-to-market approach. This legal counsel will assist in defining scalable contract approaches and playbooks and train our sales teams to support the innovative and rapidly growing strategic sourcing business. They will work closely with Workday corporate headquarters and cross-functional teams (sales, services, product, marketing) to help drive alignment and integration strategy as well as partner with the Scout sales team to optimize the go-to-market contract approach.


  • Lead, counsel and oversee outbound licensing and complex transactional matters for Workday
  • Deliver pragmatic, opportune, and business-oriented legal counsel to Workday’s various clients, customers and internal stakeholders
  • Help counsel business units to support business initiatives and internal compliance, in addition to a wide range of legal issues
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships with customers and partners

  • JD from a recognized U.S. law school and licensed to practice in California, or eligible for in-house registration
  • 10+ years’ broad based experience with a leading software or technology company
  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills
  • Strong deal making skills that go beyond negotiating legal terms and resolving legal issues
  • Superior business judgment and the ability to address complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways
  • Ability to see around corners to identify opportunities and issues in our market space and participate fully with the business teams charting our future sales directions
  • Specific experience in a SaaS, cloud computing, enterprise software or social network environment is highly valued
  • Significant experience negotiating complex contracts and licensing arrangements, and resolving complex commercial disputes, is highly valued, as is experience counseling global organizations on commercial and compliance issues
  • Detail-orientation and ability to manage multiple transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships with customers and management
  • Excellent judgment and sense of humor,
  • Ability to deliver in a demanding and entrepreneurial environment in a timely manner
  • A strong team player who can work well with Workday colleagues in Finance, Human Resources and other functions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-output, team oriented, practical environment
