Your Tasks and Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Assistant General Counsel, are to:
Incumbent is responsible for providing general legal services which includes advising management and personnel as to compliance with law relating to the research, development and manufacturing of their products; preparing agreements with respect to their business and operations; real estate, leases, property and site management, Environmental and corporate compliance;
Provides Proactive legal advice to senior management on key legal and business issues;
Incumbent is responsible for legal services and guidance in day to day business matters such as construction, engineering, government inspections, contract administration and interpretation, good manufacturing practices, local law and purchasing;
Support Bayer in-house and outside counsel in all facets of Litigation affecting the sites and the products manufactured at the Berkeley site; is the direct resource counsel for outside trial counsel including discovery response, serving as the corporate verification representative; provides support and guidance in related public relations issues;
Designated as responsible counsel for provision of legal services to the company's Human Resource functions in all locations identified in this job description. This includes EEO, employment termination's, compliance with state and federal statutes including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), claims and lawsuits;
Participates in local and national legislative review matters that include observing, interpreting and influencing the legislative process wherever the Division's special interest may be affected;
The incumbent assumes administrative responsibilities and assignments under the direction of the Vice President and General Counsel, Pharmaceuticals;
Serves on various business and compliance committees as required.
The incumbent is the direct and immediate legal representative for the environmental, safety and product recall requirements of the Business Groups’ locations identified in this description.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited school;
A minimum 15 years of experience practicing law with at least five years’ experience as an attorney with a pharmaceutical company or directly involved in the representation of the pharmaceutical industry at a law firm;
Admission to a state bar (with the ability to become licensed as an in-house counsel in CA if not otherwise licensed in CA);
The incumbent must develop and apply a comprehensive understanding of the policies and ethics of the company to assure that the management and personnel are adequately counseled and trained.
