Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is looking for a Pro Bono Attorney with a minimum of five years of relevant experience to join our pro bono team. If you are entrepreneurially-minded and a builder, and you are looking to make an impact, we want to speak with you.
We are looking for candidates with demonstrated experience with asylum cases and other forms of humanitarian immigration relief. Candidates should have experience with affirmative and defensive asylum matters; refugee representations; T-Visa, U-Visa, SIJS and VAWA matters; federal court actions; and amicus briefs. Spanish or French language fluency is strongly preferred.
Provide expertise and support across all offices in connection with matters involving humanitarian forms of immigration relief
Assist teams providing representation in connection with appeals, federal litigation, and defensive asylum matters
Support non-immigration pro bono cases and projects as needed
Work in partnership with legal services organizations nationwide on pro bono and community service projects that align with the firm’s strengths to develop nationwide partnerships and programs
Collaborate with other members of the Pro Bono team to develop internal programming and identify trainings and pro bono projects that are appropriate for the firm
Minimum of five years of experience with a primary focus on asylum and other forms of humanitarian immigration relief
Strong enthusiasm for and commitment to helping build a more equitable world and fighting for the liberties and protections to which everyone is entitled
Excellent written and verbal communication and advocacy skills
Excellent legal research and analytical skills
Excellent team player skills with an emphasis on collaboration and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams across the firm’s offices
Effective and efficient problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and proactively with confidence
Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction in which you plan to practice
