About Root & Rebound:
Root & Rebound’s (R&R)’s mission is to restore power and resources to the families and communities most harmed by mass incarceration through legal advocacy, public education, policy reform, and litigation— a model rooted in the needs and expertise of people who are directly impacted.

Post-Graduate Fellow:
Root & Rebound is interested in hosting externally funded post-graduate Legal Fellows for 1- or 2-year fellowship terms, including but not limited to those interested in applying for Equal Justice Works, Skadden, Soros Justice, and law school-sponsored post-graduate legal fellowships. We are looking for project proposals that bring innovative legal advocacy and support to people with arrest and conviction histories, and would complement our existing program areas:
  • Education — via the development of reentry guides and toolkits, online and community-based legal trainings and workshops, and in-custody reentry legal education.
  • Advocacy — via the Reentry Legal Hotline, community clinics, and expansion of direct services.
  • Reform — via policy advocacy, systems reform work, and high-impact litigation.

Qualifications:
The successful post-graduate fellow should possess the following qualifications:
  • Desire to work with people returning to the community from prison and jail & on reentry/criminal justice issues in a dynamic legal environment
  • Demonstrated interest in improving the lives of disenfranchised people and communities
  • Currently in law school or recent law school graduate
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and meticulous follow-up
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, sound judgment, and a good sense of humor
  • Humility and flexibility, and a commitment to teamwork
  • Eagerness to take initiative, solve intricate problems, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize and organize in a deadline-driven environment
  • A high level of dependability and the ability to maintain a consistent schedule
  • Ability to comfortably and appropriately communicate with a diverse group of stakeholders including currently and formerly incarcerated individuals, their family members, staff, community partners, board members, and others
  • Bilingual/multilingual speakers preferred, but not required
