FamilyFirst Law is offering an exciting 16 week internship opportunity for law students to obtain real world legal experience in a short period of time. Interns will also have the opportunity to become a certified law student with the State Bar of California, receive specialized training for the Cal State bar exam, and even qualify for performance-based tuition assistance all in one place. Here the interns will be teamed up with an attorney and interacting directly with clients and working on client’s cases from day one. Interns are able to working remotely from home. The position requires 15 to 20 hours per week commitment. The Intern will work with attorneys specialized in Family Law and Board Certified Family Law Specialists. Interns will have an opportunity to work with clients dealing with divorce, custody/visitation, child/spousal support, domestic violence, and will assist their supervising attorney with legal research, drafting, document preparation, court appearance preparation, and direct engagement with clients under attorney supervision. To the extent your law school allows course credit, our program will coordinate with your school’s internship protocol. This is an opportunity to develop real world experience and develop comprehensive legal skills in a short period of time. Select candidates that elect to extend and who successfully complete a second internship, may be given the opportunity to grow into full time employment opportunities with the Firm. As an added incentive, the Firm will also provide assistance and specialized training to students who are preparing to sit for and pass the Cal. State Bar Exam. Lastly, your internship will also qualify you for performance-based tuition assistance upon successful completion of your internship program.

Legal research and at-issue memorandums,
Draft motions, points and authorities, proposed orders and other pleadings;

Preparing for an executing deposition of a witness;
Initiate and develop direct exam, cross exam, redirect questions;
Preparing for and responding to discovery briefs, understanding civil discovery procedure
Developing skills with effective negotiation techniques and settlement procedures
Understanding the theory of the case
Review and complete family law judicial council forms
Legal strategy in family law cases
Case indexing and organization
Required Qualifications
Completed 2L year;
Ideal candidate is entering the summer before 3L year or 3L;
Completed legal research and writing;
Completed Community Property course;
Minimum 2.8 and above GPA;
Successful completion of one prior internship-- a plus;
