$1B Global Fastener Business is looking for dynamic candidate as a Legal Counsel - Americas, a generalist lawyer who will be giving legal support to our operations located in the Americas (United States, Mexico) as well as leading critical global legal projects for our organization.

Main responsibilities: The Key Responsibilities for the Legal Counsel - Americas include:
Identify the legal issues and potential regulatory requirements associated with the key initiatives of the business; develops potential approaches, explains and review options with business leadership and propose solutions; and guide cross-functional implementation of the solutions.
Develop an in-depth knowledge of the business and keeps abreast of changes in laws that affect the business
Collaborate with commercial leaders on negotiation plans for critical customers and suppliers in advance of contract negotiations and then participates with commercial leaders in these strategic negotiations.
Identify unmet current and future legal needs of the business and identifies resources (typically outside counsel) most cost-effective for filling the needs. Supervises outside counsel to effectively supervise outside counsel.
Seek to continually improve the tools by which the global legal function is managed and operated by participating in best practices councils and webinars to stay current on evolving legal operations technology.
Actively participate in or lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects throughout the company – contributing the analytical skills that are part of the toolkit of the lawyer
Regularly “teach” relevant areas of law to other professionals in the business (in ways that are scalable) – from teaching contract law to the commercial professionals to teaching labor and employment law to the human resources professionals to teaching how to document finding to engineers and quality professionals
Draft, review, negotiate and execute contracts.
Manage record keeping for all contract-related correspondence and documentation.
Provide contract-related issue resolution, both internally and externally.
Monitor and complete contract close-out, extension or renewal, as appropriate.
Communicate contract-related information to all stakeholders.
Along with the legal team at Optimas, assure that the compliance foundation is strong and refreshes and fiercely protects the ethical reputation of the company when dealing with customers, suppliers, communities and industries served by Optimas

Skills and Qualifications:
A Juris Doctorate granted by an accredited law school, with license to practice in Illinois.
5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney – some part of the experience in-house
Desired: Experience inhouse in an manufacturing or distribution company
Excellent English Communication Skills - written and verbal (MUST)
Highest level of integrity, professionalism and gravitas.
An ability to manage and prioritize work in a high volume practice.
Having worked collegially and professionally in a diverse environment with peers, subordinates and clients.
Excellent judgment and analytical skills
