A law clerk contributes to the operations of the Court by performing a wide variety of duties, among them:
  • Maintains an overall understanding of the court systems and processes
  • Oversees the Civil Case Management System for his/her Judge through use of various systems
  • Tracks each assigned civil case from inception to disposition through monthly “tickles” and case comments
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Judges' Secretary and Court Administration to schedule dates for required proceedings
  • Communicates with counsel and case participants in regards to the status of cases, guarding against any exparte communications with the court
  • Conducts status conferences on behalf of the Court when directed
  • Assigns cases for alternative dispute resolutions at the appropriate time, using the mediation tracking, and designated orders
  • Schedules cases, as appropriate, for credit card and mortgage foreclosure courts from the civil case management list
  • Prepares, attends, and follows-up with credit card and mortgage foreclosure courts
  • Forwards cases, as appropriate, to Court Administration/Law Librarian for the scheduling of arbitrations
  • Oversees and conducts jury selection for summary jury trials
  • Researches state and if necessary federal law and writes opinions as directed by the Judge
  • Reviews and keeps current on recent Superior Court and Supreme Court Opinions to assist the Court with decisions
  • Works with the Court Scheduler in assigning cases to Civil Jury Selections and Trial Terms
  • Assists the Court with the development and functioning of local rules and meets with the President Judge and Court Administration to discuss any updates
  • Keeps statistics and monthly disposition reports on assigned cases
  • Attends proceedings, trainings, meetings and seminars as directed by Judge
  • Completes additional tasks and duties as assigned by the judge

Qualified candidates must possess a law degree; communications skills sufficient to present information, and respond to questions from the Court, County officials, coworkers, and the public; maintain confidentiality; ability and comfort working with people of all skills and backgrounds; computer literacy; and strong customer service orientation.

Competitive benefits package starts first of the month following employment and includes 90% employer-paid PPO health insurance with prescription and vision components, defined benefit pension plan, defined contribution plan, group term life insurance, sick time, and 14 annual paid holidays.
