Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete LLP is seeking an attorney with 3 – 4 years of litigation experience to join the firm in the Fairfax, VA office. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of civil litigation procedures and experience managing cases through the full life cycle of litigation. Employer-side, labor & employment litigation experience strongly preferred, but candidates with substantive civil litigation experience and a demonstrated interest in labor and employment law will be considered. In addition, candidates should exhibit strong organizational, time management, and project management skills and be able to communicate and interact well with clients and opposing counsel. Strong academic credentials are required and clerkship experience is a plus. To be considered, a candidate must hold a JD from an ABA-approved law school and must be an active member in good standing of the Virginia Bar.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Will handle defense of agency charges of discrimination, defense of lawsuits involving a broad range of employment-related claims and advice and counseling involving similar issues.
Represent employers in court, before administrative agencies, at mediations, and in arbitration in a broad range of employment matters.
Advise and train employers on a wide range of employment laws and regulations.
Effectively and persuasively write briefs and motions for the benefit of our clients.
Cultivate productive and effective relationships with clients.
Qualities Ideal Candidates Will Have:
Strong legal writing skills and experience with complex discovery, complex motions, and taking and defending depositions
Strong trial preparation skills for both state and federal courts, and handling evidentiary hearings on their own
Business development skills alongside a demonstrated history of maintaining positive relationships with clients
