Intermountain Rural Electric Association is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill our General Counsel position in our Sedalia location. With over 160,000 members, Intermountain Rural Electric Association is one of the largest member-owned electric utility cooperatives in the United States.
Salary: Compensation Based On Experience
The position requires a license to practice law and admission to the Colorado State Bar with 5 years of legal experience preferably in the electric/utility industry. Responsible to the Board of Directors (Board) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for legal counsel and advice regarding legal issues and disputes, corporate governance, transactions, regulatory matters, right of way issues, contracts, compliance, risk management, relationships with outside counsel and other legal matters arising in connection with the business of the Association. Excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills are required.
The position requires sound judgment in the application of legal principles to issues arising in the course of the Association's affairs, the ability to develop policies, strategies, and practices that effectively address existing and anticipated issues and conditions, as well as the ability to work and communicate effectively with the Board, management, and staff of the Association. Prepares opinions and memoranda regarding legal matters as requested by the Board or CEO. Reviews, negotiates, and drafts, or assists with the review, negotiating, and drafting of contracts, easements, licenses, and other legal documents. Reviews and revises contracts and other legal documents. Works with Association management and staff as necessary to accomplish those ends. Keeps current on legal and regulatory developments affecting the Association's business. Takes steps to ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and internal Association policies and procedures. Monitors proposed legislation and works with the Association's Public Affairs and lobbying personnel to advance the Association's interest regarding legislative matters.
