The Role: ZAG seeks an experienced business and legal affairs attorney to handle a wide array of responsibilities related to the development and production of original television and feature film animation, the global licensing of broadcasting and merchandising rights and corporate matters. The successful candidate will work with the company’s film and television content team to structure, negotiate and draft agreements necessary to develop, produce and exploit ZAG’s growing slate of original animation feature films and television programs. The successful candidate will also work with the company’s licensing team and international agents to negotiate and draft licensing agreements for branded consumer products. This is a unique opportunity to help shape ZAG’s brand strategy and make decisions that have both business and legal impacts. The successful candidate will have extensive business and legal affairs experience, with animation experience a plus.
Assume responsibility from start to finish for deal negotiations and preparation of contracts for developing, producing, financing and licensing animated feature films and television programming as well as licensing of branded consumer products.
Respond promptly and effectively to legal requests from sales, business development, operations, senior management, marketing, corporate finance and other internal clients, and advise on recommended courses of action and legal risks.
Summarize deal terms and communicate with Chief Executive Officer to obtain necessary approval of deals.
Create, maintain and regularly review agreement templates for use in the day-to-day business operations.
Lead on oversight and management of worldwide trademark portfolio with outside counsel and consumer products team, including filing, renewals and enforcement.
Lead on company strategy relating to regulatory legislation like GDPR.
Oversee corporate insurance policy management and strategy, including employers’ liability, worker’s compensation, general liability and directors and officer’s insurance.
Support any leasing agreement renewals or negotiations for offices around the globe.
Develop and maintain centralized filing processes and reports for various types of contracts
Manage contract administration database
Manage domain name portfolio and develop a domain name strategy for all brands.
J.D. and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
5+ years of legal and / or business affairs experience
Excellent people skills and ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external partners.
Strong analytical capabilities and judgment
Ability and willingness to match practicality with risk mitigation and tackle matters outside areas of expertise
Ability to work proactively and independently
Creative, business-friendly approach to problem solving and the ability to provide high-quality legal support in a fast-paced environment
