Looking for your first in-house legal job? Cepheid has an opportunity for a sharp and highly motivated attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join its congenial and supportive Legal team. In this position, you will support a range of transactions, primarily focusing on North America Commercial matters. You will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen your skills as a key partner to the largest organization within Cepheid, assume increasing responsibility, and help redefine Legal support for the North America Commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who is eager to learn and transition to an impactful in-house role.
Work closely and collaboratively with all levels of sales, sales operations, finance, marketing, and business development teams to support a broad range of commercial transactions
Negotiate, draft, and review various commercial agreements, including sales, service, and equipment rental agreements, master services agreements, and nondisclosure agreements
Identify, interpret, explain, and advise on various legal issues and associated risks, including those concerning promotional programs and other transactions with healthcare providers, and contract terms, requirements, and obligations
Provide creative and proactive counsel to relevant business stakeholders
Develop and implement training and education programs, policies, and procedures related to commercial transactions and contracting processes
Develop and implement processes to drive efficiency and improve contract workflow and legal operations
Improve and create contract templates and negotiation playbooks
Escalate issues, as appropriate, and collaboratively share potential risks and proposals with leadership teams
Stay current on applicable laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry codes, especially concerning anti-bribery, competition, healthcare, and medical devices
2-4 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department as a practicing attorney
Law degree from an accredited law school and at least one US state bar membership
Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
Self-driven with strong work ethic and desire to learn
Practical and detail-oriented
Highly responsive and service-oriented with superior judgment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent change
Experience with commercial transactions in the medical diagnostics or healthcare industry a plus
Knowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry codes, including the federal Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act, a plus
