Description:
Looking for your first in-house legal job? Cepheid has an opportunity for a sharp and highly motivated attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join its congenial and supportive Legal team. In this position, you will support a range of transactions, primarily focusing on North America Commercial matters. You will have the opportunity to learn and sharpen your skills as a key partner to the largest organization within Cepheid, assume increasing responsibility, and help redefine Legal support for the North America Commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who is eager to learn and transition to an impactful in-house role.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all levels of sales, sales operations, finance, marketing, and business development teams to support a broad range of commercial transactions
  • Negotiate, draft, and review various commercial agreements, including sales, service, and equipment rental agreements, master services agreements, and nondisclosure agreements
  • Identify, interpret, explain, and advise on various legal issues and associated risks, including those concerning promotional programs and other transactions with healthcare providers, and contract terms, requirements, and obligations
  • Provide creative and proactive counsel to relevant business stakeholders
  • Develop and implement training and education programs, policies, and procedures related to commercial transactions and contracting processes
  • Develop and implement processes to drive efficiency and improve contract workflow and legal operations
  • Improve and create contract templates and negotiation playbooks
  • Escalate issues, as appropriate, and collaboratively share potential risks and proposals with leadership teams
  • Stay current on applicable laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry codes, especially concerning anti-bribery, competition, healthcare, and medical devices

Key Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department as a practicing attorney
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and at least one US state bar membership
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Self-driven with strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • Practical and detail-oriented
  • Highly responsive and service-oriented with superior judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent change

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with commercial transactions in the medical diagnostics or healthcare industry a plus
  • Knowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry codes, including the federal Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act, a plus
