Position Summary: We are seeking an attorney with 3-5 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house legal experience with a focus on transactional entertainment and media law. The role will include drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal documents, primarily for The Weather Channel, Local Now and Pattrn.
This position will have a high level of responsibility and will work directly with the various business units of the company. The Counsel position will report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Counsel of The Weather Group and be an integral part of the Business and Legal Affairs team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft, review and negotiate content acquisition agreements, including FAST channels, AVOD, SVOD and TVOD, for OTT, digital platforms and programming for traditional linear broadcast, cable and satellite.
Draft, review and negotiate agreements for the distribution and exploitation of Weather Group’s OTT programming and applications on various platforms, devices, MVPDs and vMPVDs.
Draft, negotiate and interpret a variety of transactional agreements, such as vendor, independent contractor, master services, equipment and software licenses.
Familiarity of digital advertising technology, including the transfer of data and privacy implications.
Experience with intellectual property issues regarding content acquisition and development.
Knowledge of privacy policies and laws (i.e. CPPA), COPPA and FCC regulations.
General understanding of music rights and licensing as it relates to programming.
Work with management, marketing, ad sales, IT, programming, finance, human resources, and operations to provide legal and business advice.
Assist and work with other legal team members at the Weather Group and Allen Media Group’s legal department.
